Animal neglect is the failure to provide basic care required for an animal to thrive. At first glance, such cases may seem less egregious than a single, brutal act of violent abuse, but severe neglect can mean extended periods of extreme suffering resulting in permanent injury or death. So what do you do when you see a dog suffering on the streets? You rescue her and become that dog’s hero like Dan Dial is to Rasta.
Heavy traffic and a frantic dog make for a lethal combination. Our hearts stopped numerous times as we watched the fearful dog darting in and out of the chaotic stream of traffic, desperately trying to avoid humans as if they were the true enemy. How are we going to rescue her? Are we going to witness what seems to be inevitable? Another poor canine soul being struck? We had to think of a plan....and fast!
An unkempt farmland with makeshift buildings, old cars, an old barn and littered with dogs in every shape and size. In the distance is a 72 year old woman, thin but determined, cleaning and feeding some of the dogs in a kennel run. I squint to get a better look for I haven’t seen her in over 6 years. Yes, that is her, Anna and her 50 some dogs.
