A Rescue of Tears

Dubbed the “C” pups, this is a rescue that will stick with me for a long time. Wash ashore from the Mississippi river lay 4 skeletal dying puppies. What I saw made me cry. Tails cut off by what I could only guess scissors, starved to death is actually an understatement and 2 of these poor victims didn’t even register a temperature.  Dr. J told me she didn’t have high hopes for them to survive.

In true Stray Rescue fashion Dr. J, Vet Tech, Jennifer and even Jennifer’s mom sprang into action. From warm baths, heating pads, fluids and prayers they worked on these poor pups for many hours. I left to go rescue another dog and I remember sitting in my car afraid to come back, not wanting to hear bad news and feeling an array of emotions from anger at humans to pure grief. Dr. J knew to tell me, as I walked in with a just rescued terrier mix, an update. “I think we did it, I think they will live.”

They now will get names beginning with the letter “C” and never be tortured again.
