Donna and I have been really busy rescuing today. The heat is unbearable, and we both were already a bit drained from dealing with people who neglect their dogs. I am stopping to write during lunch, so please excuse my grammar!
Our previous call we just went on is so heartbreaking on so many levels. A pregnant homeless woman carrying twins wanted us to take her dog because of the heat and her condition (more responsible than owners with a roof over their head). She was with her homeless friends.
The love and tears they had for their dog, Precious, was unmatched. I took a video, but I didn’t want to be intrusive and didn’t want to put the video cam in their faces, so I apologize for the quality. The video captures some of it.
Driving back with tears in our eyes and with this special dog, we couldn’t stop thinking about what will happen to the mom and her twins. She has no medical care or a place to have her babies. We hopefully helped so she doesn’t have to worry about her dog, but what about her? I am calling all social workers to head down to Convention Plaza and Broadway and get her the help she needs. We are better than this as a society.
We renamed the dog Precious Inspiration. And she loves her Kermit The Frog and Miss Piggy doll that was hers on the street. Precious is the second homeless person’s dog that asked us to take their dog this week. I do so with pride and sorrow. The heat is brutal on these poor dogs and humans. Please give to our matching grant today. Woof, Randy.
